The Salt Martians are a Santa Barbara-based, all-acoustic bluegrass band. Ken Gaston and Tim Mullins first performed together in the mid-Seventies at the legendary Bluebird Cafe. Former rock and rockabilly player Aaron Douglas joins them on string bass, giving the band almost three thousand years of combined playing experience. Their enthusiasm for playing together and enjoyment of both traditional and contemporary bluegrass music are virulently contagious.

Here's a picture of the Martians with fiddler Tommy Marton at the 2008 Parkfield Bluegrass Festival.

Here's a picture of the Martians at their Second Anniversary Celebration at the Tupelo Junction Cafe. Thanks for the cake, Betty!

Here are the Martians with Santa Barbara Mayor Marty Blum at the opening of Santa Barbara Arts.

And here's a picture of the Martians with brother Mike Mullins joining us on mandolin.

Their name comes from the Carpinteria Salt Marsh, one of the last remaining coastal estuaries in California.
